I think every person or group that does a website, and claims to be Christian, should have a Doctrinal Statement which outlines what they believe. They should do this so that, everyone can easily check out whether or not their website adheres to basic Christian teaching. If a website doesn’t have the basic Christian teachings as its foundation, I would question whether the website is truly Christian. If the website doesn’t have a Doctrinal Statement, I would encourage you to be like the Berean Christians in Acts 17:11, and carefully examine what the owners of the site are teaching. Frankly it is always a good idea to scrutinize any teaching by God’s Word, including mine. So with that said, here is my Doctrinal Statement, which outlines basic Christian doctrine.
Doctrinal Statement
- The Holy Bible, both Old and New Testaments, are the inspired Word of God and without error in the original writings. The Holy Bible is the complete revelation of God’s will for the salvation of all people and is the final authority for Christian faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Luke 24:25-27; Isaiah 55:8-11; Matthew 5:17-19; also Deuteronomy 30:11-20).
- There is one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Isaiah 43:10-13, 45:21-22, 61:1-2a; Luke 4:16-21; Matthew 28:19-20).
- Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary (Matthew 1:20-25; Philippians 2:5-8). He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures, and then He arose bodily from the dead on the third day, again according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). He ascended into heaven and is at the right hand of the Majesty on High, and is now our High Priest and Advocate (Hebrews 1:1-3, 2:17-18; I John 2:1-2).
- The ministry of the Holy Spirit on this earth is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, convict all people of their sins, and to indwell, seal and regenerate the believing sinner (John 16:8-15; Ephesians 1:13-14; Titus 3:5-6). The Holy Spirit also guides, instructs and empowers the believer for godly living and service (John 14:26; Acts 1:8).
- All people are created in the image of God. But because all people have sinned, they are all separated from God and need a Savior from their sins. Only through believing that Jesus Christ died on the cross for their sins, can a person have their sins paid for and have eternal life (Genesis 1:27, 2:16-17, 3:1-19; Romans 5:12; John 3:15-16; I John 4:9-10, 5:11-13).
- The shed blood of Jesus Christ and His Resurrection provide the only foundation for salvation, forgiveness of sins, and justification for all who believe (Hebrews 9:22; Romans 3:19-26; II Corinthians 5:21). Only those who have received Jesus Christ through faith are born of the Holy Spirit and, thus become children of God (John 1:12-13; Ephesians 1:13-14, 2:1-9).
- The true Church (universal) is composed of all such persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the Body of Christ of which He is the Head (I Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 2).
- Jesus Christ will return personally, both bodily and visibly, and His return is imminent in that it could happen at any time (Acts 1:11; Revelations 3:11, 22:7, 12, 20; I Thessalonians 3:13, 4:15, 5:23; II Thessalonians 2:1; James 5:7-8; II Peter 1:16, 3:12).
- All people will be resurrected from the dead: the believer or true Christian goes to everlasting life with the Lord, and the unbeliever goes to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment (Acts 24:15; II Thessalonians 1:8-9; Revelations 20).
