Change we can believe in
11/10/2008
America just finished its presidential election. I think it was the longest election cycle ever when counting the primaries. Instead of a short campaign for president once every four years, it seems that candidates are almost running continuously. Between you and me, if campaigning gets any longer, we might as well run a professional salesman.
The candidate that won this election for president was Obama. His chant or slogan throughout his campaign was, “Change we can believe in”. What struck me as odd is, he never really explained what change we can believe in was. Yet that didn’t seem to matter to the people who voted him into the office. However, I am the type of gal who likes to know what is coming, without any surprises. So I definitely like to know exactly how, what, when and why a change is going to happen and in what direction. How about you?
My question to you is, what change can you truly believe in? In other words, who can you believe in to change your life and country the right way? Jesus knew how limited and fickle men and women are, so in John 2:24 we are told, "Jesus… was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men." God’s Word is telling us, it is foolhardy to believe in any change that a person brings, because humans are finite. The right change can only come from our infinite God.
The Lord says, "Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind…And whose heart turns away from the Lord. For he will be like a bush in the desert, And will not see when prosperity comes, But will live in stony wastes in the wilderness,…Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord …For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit.
