I belong to a fitness center where I try to lift weights once a week to slow down the “older woman underarm jiggle”! I other day, after swimming, I came strolling into the women’s shower room. I didn’t see anyone, but I heard a shower. As I passed the stall, I saw a young guy taking a shower. Needlessly to say, my first thought was, “Oh no! I am in the men’s locker room.” And then I realized, he was in the women’s! I said to the guy, in the most merciful tone I could muster, “You are in the women’s bathroom!” By then the look on his face was priceless and he said, “Oh _____! I thought I was in the men’s because the other fitness centers always seem to have the men’s on this side.” There always seems to be times in our lives when we are sure one way is the right way, yet it ends up being the wrong way! I certainly have gone into a men’s bathroom because I thought I knew where the door was.
I think we would all agree walking into the wrong bathroom is minor in the scheme of life. However, going on what seems right to us (what we think or feel) concerning life and death, is the most dangerous and foolish decision we can make in this life. This is because the awful truth is, we all die physically! And because of this fact – it is life or death to us to know what will become of us after death!
Did you know that the God of the universe tells us in the Old and New Testaments what will become of us after we die? They teach death is a state of separation, not extinction, because starting from our birth we are eternal beings! This means you either live on in a state the Bible calls eternal life with God, or live away from God, in eternal punishment. God’s Word also tells you very clearly the only way you will live with Him in heaven, instead of alone in hell - is to believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins?
God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son (Jesus). He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:11-13 (NIV)
